Butler Bay was originally a part of the Danish Butler Bay Plantation which flourished in the days of the sugar trade. The Butler Bay Greathouse was constructed circa 1720. In the pictures below and on the website, it is the complex of houses with the red roofs.

Inland from the beach is large pasture dotted with beautiful specimen trees, the remnants of the Danish sugar plantation hospital and acres of grass.
