The National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana is a museum worth visiting. Many historical things are on display there, and it is a great place to learn and talk about the war. Artifacts of the equipment, films about the battles, and photos of the soldiers are some of the things you will see; each element will help you better understand the history of the war. You will also meet people who have experienced the actual war at this museum too; they will be there to answer all of your questions.

When you walk into the museum, one of the first things you will notice is a huge boat called the Huggins boat. This particular boat carried the soldiers and their vehicles to the beach during the war, so you should checkout this exhibit first. Standing next to the boat will be Capt Summers; he was the actual driver of the vehicle. He is very knowledgeable, and he has the answers to many of the visitors’ questions. There will also be other people next to other exhibits; each local volunteer gives tourists helpful, educational information.

Every volunteer near the exhibits has an interesting story to tell, and the stories give visitors a better understanding of the items on display. For example, if you walk up to a uniform, the individual that used it will tell you about the medals on it and the places the uniform was worn. After hearing each person’s unique story, you will feel as if you were there during the war. Many other possessions will be on display too, and you will not be able to view them all in one day. If you plan to spend an entire day at the museum, you should definitely wear some comfortable shoes.

Besides the exhibits, you can also watch films during your visit; each film will cover a different topic. The films are great for teenagers because they will get to learn about the history of D-day. Watching the films and then touring the exhibits is an outstanding way to prepare for a school test. Small kids may not like the museum at all; the films and the talking near each exhibit may seem boring to them.

If you get hungry at the museum, you can visit the on site coffee shop. The shop has great coffee and a few types of sandwiches and snacks. Eating at the on-site coffee shop is not very filling, but the food will give you enough energy to tour for a bit longer. Whenever you get extremely hungry, it is best to eat at one of the local Cajun restaurants, their large portion meals will definitely stop your hunger.

The National World War II Museum is a terrific place to learn during a visit to New Orleans, Louisiana; the old exhibits, historical photos, and educational films are all amazing. The highlight of the museum, however, is the volunteers because their stories help every visitor understand what the war as like.
